Build then critique

Build the wild page, screenshot it at your platform's sizes, grade every checklist item with evidence, and fix the top 3 inside the page only.

Say “critique the build”, “does this match the direction” or “grade my page”. The gobanana-critique skill checks a built page against the direction it came from, honestly and with evidence.

  • The page: a URL, a local dev server (http://localhost:3000/pricing) or screenshots. For a local project with no server running, the agent offers to start your dev script and asks first.
  • The direction: from the chat, design/explorations/<slug>/ in your repo, or the board.
  • A browser tool, any of: the Playwright MCP, Chrome tools (Claude in Chrome or similar), or the Playwright CLI through npx. With none, it asks you for screenshots.
  1. Get the checklist. design/explorations/<slug>/REVIEW.md if it exists. Otherwise export_kit with review (Pro). On Free, the agent builds the checklist from DIRECTION.md: one item each for signature, pattern, typography, color, layout, motion, texture, iconography, density, every avoid line, plus contrast and target size.

  2. Screenshot your page at the platform’s sizes:

    Platform Sizes
    mobile 390x844
    tablet 834x1194
    website 1440x900 and 390x844
    webapp 1440x900
    any 1440x900 and 390x844

Motion items are also checked with reduced motion on (Playwright reducedMotion: "reduce") and by reading the CSS.

Without the MCP, the CLI does it:

    Terminal window
    npx --yes playwright screenshot --viewport-size=390,844 --full-page http://localhost:3000/pricing /tmp/mobile.png
  3. Grade every item pass, fix, or not checked with a reason, each with evidence (a screenshot at a named size, or a file and line):

    Item Grade Evidence
Signature: balance shown as a stamped ticket pass 390x844: ticket card with perforated edge above the fold
    Contrast: body text 4.5:1 fix 1440x900: #8A8F98 on #F4F1EA is 2.9:1 (app/pricing/page.tsx line 42)
Motion respects reduced motion not checked no browser tool; CSS has no prefers-reduced-motion block

Accessibility is graded strictly: WCAG 2.2 AA text 4.5:1 (SC 1.4.3), UI parts 3:1 (SC 1.4.11), target size (SC 2.5.8), visible focus, reduced motion. So is the platform: no 12 column grid on a phone, 44pt targets on mobile.

  4. Top 3 fixes, one line each: what, where, why. Then how close it is: “7 of 11 pass; the signature is there, the type voice is not.”

  5. Apply, if you say yes. “Apply these 3 fixes? I’ll only touch files for /pricing.” It edits only files in the page scope, screenshots again at the same sizes and re-grades what it touched.

Fixes stay in the files for the scoped pages and their page-local components and styles. The skill never edits shared components, global CSS, your tokens or theme, layouts used by other pages, or other routes. If a fix needs a shared file, it lists it and leaves it to you.
