Only search_references counts against the monthly search quota: one call is one search, whatever it returns.

What happens at a limit

The tool answers with one plain message and an upgrade link, for example:

The skills show that message once and stop. They never retry in a loop. At the canvas limit they offer two ways out: add to one of your boards, or delete an old one (only after you say yes to a named board).
