Reading a board

Sections per direction, the Art direction row above the UI references grid, steal notes, the tray and its tabs, Ship and Explore marks, and FigJam or HTML copies.

A GoBanana board is a moodboard canvas with one section per kept direction. Every image on it is a link to its source.

┌ Section: Checkout as a frosted vinyl sleeve ───────────────────────────────┐
│ [note] WILD: the total peeks through a cutout. PATTERN: fare summary │
│ slides out of a sleeve. SIGNATURE: a half-moon cutout. │
│ │
│ Art direction [img] [img] [img] ← 2 to 4, the idea as images │
│ │
│ UI references [img] [img] [img] [img] ← 6 to 8, real screens │
│ [img] [img] [img] [img] for your platform │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘

One yellow note per section, in a fixed shape: WILD: <twist>. PATTERN: <pattern>. SIGNATURE: <signature>. The labels show as small chips. It is the direction in one breath. Links in notes are clickable.

The wild idea as raw images: the weave, the receipt, the riso print, the cereal box. They come from Pinterest, Behance and art galleries such as Fonts In Use, typo/graphic posters, Cosmos and Are.na. Art tiles carry a small Art badge.

Use them for mood, texture, color and form. Never build them as screens. Art never counts toward a direction’s usable references, and it never goes in the UI grid.

Real UI for your platform: screens, pages and components from UI galleries (Lapa Ninja, Refero, ScreensDesign and others), Dribbble, Behance, Pinterest and Awwwards. A phone brief only gets app screens; a website brief only gets sites and sections.

These are what you actually build from, and the only references Frankenstein it cuts parts from.

Every placed reference carries a short note, up to 280 characters, that starts with steal: and names one concrete thing to take for your page:

  • steal: the bottom sheet that holds the fare breakdown
  • steal: the misregistered second ink as the price highlight
  • steal: the tab bar that hides on scroll

Hover or focus a tile to read it. Edit it with F2. The notes travel into every export.

Every tile shows its site and links to the original page. Use M (or right click) on a tile, then Open source. In exports and replies every reference is written as [title](link) (site).

The tray is the dock-like panel with search results that are not on the board yet. It has tabs:

Tab What is in it
UI UI zone results from every search on this board
Art direction Art zone results
Parts The Frankenstein parts library, grouped by role (nav, hero, cards…)

Each tab shows a count. Drag a result onto the board, or focus it and press Enter to add it. Results rated bad leave the tray and never come back for you. Per the privacy notice, references found by search but never placed on a canvas are deleted from GoBanana’s records after 30 days.

Share links never show the tray, only the board.

Images and swatches can carry a mark:

  • Ship: passes WCAG 2.2 contrast for its use, or you decided it is buildable.
  • Explore: concept only. Keep it for mood; do not put text on it.

Palette swatches get their mark from the contrast check. On images, set it yourself from the tile menu: Mark as Ship, Mark as Explore, Clear Ship or Explore mark.

If you used Frankenstein it, a section called Frankenstein pages sits to the right, with one frame per page variant. See Frankenstein it.

Ask the agent to “tidy the board” or pick a layout. arrange_canvas has four:

Layout Use when
by_direction Default. One column per section; the art row stays above the UI grid
masonry One mixed pile; 4 columns that keep image shapes
grid Comparing like with like, equal cells
hero One standout leads large, the rest below

“Make the Lapa Ninja one the hero of direction 2” places it first in that section and arranges it with hero.

Press ? on the board for the full sheet. The basics: arrows nudge a tile 8px (Shift for 32px), + and - resize, M opens the tile menu, Space previews, F2 edits a note, Delete removes, Shift+1 zooms to fit. All shortcuts: Keyboard shortcuts.

Two Pro exports copy the board out of GoBanana:

  • FigJam (figjam_spec): say “put this board in FigJam”. The agent exports a JSON layout and rebuilds it in FigJam through your own Figma MCP connector: sections, an Art direction row above a UI references grid, stickies for notes, color rectangles for swatches, a label with the site and link under each image, and a final Sources section. Images load from their source URL; if Figma cannot load one, the agent makes a link card. Nothing is saved to disk.
  • HTML board (html_board): a single board.html file that hotlinks every image from its source and lists sources at the bottom. Open it in a browser.
  • Directorydesign/explorations/frosted-sleeve/
    • figjam-spec.json
    • board.html
