How it works

Pin, bend, search two zones, board, Frankenstein it, hand off. Which part the server does and which part your agent does.

GoBanana splits the work in two on purpose.

The GoBanana server Your agent (Claude, Cursor, Codex…)
Bends a brief with fixed word lists and templates. Same input, same output. Shapes the brief, pins the platform and the pages.
Runs web image searches on chosen galleries and filters list pages, shops, UI kits and repeats. Looks at every result and rates the junk and the standouts.
Saves boards, sections, notes, parts and palettes. Lays them out. Decides which ideas to keep and writes the “steal:” notes.
Computes colors and WCAG contrast. Explains them and picks what ships.
Returns file text for exports. Writes the files in your repo, merging, never overwriting.

The server makes no AI calls. The plugin’s skills tell your agent which tools to call, in which order, and how to show the results.

  1. Pin the platform and the page.

The platform is one of mobile, tablet, website, webapp or any. The agent reads it from your words (“iPhone onboarding” is mobile, “launch page” is website, “dashboard” is web app) or asks one question. The page is 1 to 3 pages, like “pricing page” or “first run onboarding”.

If you name the whole product, the agent calls bend_brief without pages. It returns wildSpots, places where weirdness pays off, and the agent asks “Where should the weirdness go?”. See Where weirdness pays off.

  2. Bend the brief into 8 ideas.

bend_brief combines moves (transplant, material, era, constraint, scale, lens) at the wildness you pick, from 1 Fresh to 5 Bananas. Each direction has a title, a twist, a visual spec for the platform, art queries and a ready prompt. Bending is free and unlimited.

  3. Triage.

The agent keeps an idea only if it has a clear UI path for your page, is not a near duplicate, and later finds at least 6 usable UI references. It shortlists 3 (at most 4), and drops the rest with rate_directions. Dropped ideas leave the canvas and are never shown.

  4. Search two zones.

One search_references call per kept direction. About a third of the results are art direction: the wild idea as raw images (the weave, the receipt, the riso print) from Pinterest, Behance and art galleries. The rest are UI references: real screens and components for your platform from UI galleries, Dribbble, Behance, Pinterest and Awwwards. See Sources.

  5. Audit.

The agent judges every result and calls rate_references: bad for shops, stock, wrong platform, clutter or off idea, great for the 1 to 3 standouts. Bad results leave the tray and never come back for you. If more than 40% of a lane is bad, it searches that lane again with better words, at most twice.

  6. Board.

add_to_canvas places, per direction, 2 to 4 art items in an Art direction row above 6 to 8 items in a UI references grid. Each tile gets a note that starts with steal:. arrange_canvas tidies it. Only then does open_canvas show the board, finished, inline or as a web link. See Reading a board.

  7. Frankenstein it (optional).

cut_parts slices parts out of the UI references (a nav, a hero, cards) as crop rectangles. frankenstein_page stacks them into 3 or 4 new page variants. update_frankenstein and remix_frankenstein fix and remix them. See Frankenstein it.

  8. Hand off.

export_kit returns DIRECTION.md, BUILD-PROMPT.md, REVIEW.md and rules for Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code and Codex, all scoped to your pages. The agent writes them into your repo. See Hand off to your coding agent.

  9. Build then critique.

Your coding agent builds the page. The critique skill screenshots it at your platform’s sizes and grades it against REVIEW.md, then offers the top 3 fixes inside the page only. See Build then critique.

These hold in every tool, skill and export.

  • Links, never copies. GoBanana keeps image URLs and titles only. Images load from their source in your browser.
  • Source link everywhere: on the canvas, in share links, in every export and in every skill reply.
  • Parts are crops, not files. A Frankenstein part is a rectangle the browser shows over the original image.
  • No scraping. Web image search results only.
  • Takedowns apply everywhere, including shared boards, on the next load.
  • WCAG 2.2 AA. Palettes tag each color pair ship or explore by contrast, and exports say only ship colors carry text.

Free gives you 30 searches a month, 3 canvases, 40 items per canvas and the files that make one page buildable (DESIGN.md, BRIEF.md, DIRECTION.md, BUILD-PROMPT.md, FRANKENSTEIN.md). Pro is $5 a month or $39 a year: 300 searches, unlimited canvases, 300 items per canvas, share links, uploads and every export. Bending, rating and Frankenstein tools are free.
