Troubleshooting

Login loops, missing tools, a canvas that does not show inline, quota messages, corporate proxies, and every plain message GoBanana sends back.

GoBanana never throws raw errors at your agent. Every problem comes back as one short sentence. Find yours below.

Message: “You are not signed in. Reconnect to sign in again.”

The token is missing, expired or for another server. Fix it per client:

Client Do this
Claude Code Run /mcp, pick the GoBanana server, choose Clear authentication, then sign in again (or Re-authenticate). From the shell: claude mcp logout <name> then claude mcp login <name>
Claude.ai, Desktop Customize, Connectors, GoBanana: disconnect or remove it, then Connect again
Cursor Customize, find gobanana, toggle it off and on, then sign in again. Logs: Output panel, MCP Logs
VS Code Run MCP: List Servers, pick gobanana, Disable then Enable, or Show Output for logs
Codex codex mcp logout gobanana, then codex mcp login gobanana
mcp-remote Delete ~/.mcp-auth and restart the client

The browser keeps bouncing back to sign in. Usually one of:

  • Third party cookies or a blocker in the browser that opens for sign in. Allow cookies for the GoBanana domain and for authkit.app, or sign in from a normal (not private) window.
  • A stale callback. Close every GoBanana sign in tab, then start the sign in again from the client.
  • The wrong URL. The address must end in /api/mcp. The bare domain or /mcp will not work.
  • Clock skew. Tokens are time based. If your computer’s clock is minutes off, set it to update automatically.

“You are signed in, but GoBanana could not load your email yet. Try again in a minute.” Your first sign in worked; the email lookup did not finish. Wait a minute and run ping again.

  1. Check the server is connected in your client’s MCP list, not just added. A server that needs sign in shows no tools.
  2. Check the URL is exactly https://gobanana.fun/api/mcp.
  3. Check the tools are turned on for the chat: +, Connectors in Claude, the tools picker in VS Code agent mode, Customize in Cursor, the MCPs toggles in Windsurf.
  4. Claude Code plugin: run /plugin, open the Installed tab and check gobanana is enabled (or run claude plugin list). An old install may still use the server key banana; reinstall with /plugin install gobanana@gobanana.
  5. Too many tools: some clients cap the total across servers (Cascade in Windsurf: 100). Turn off tools from other servers.
  6. Restart the client. Some clients only read the config at start.

Only clients with MCP Apps support render the board in the chat (Claude.ai and Claude Desktop do). Claude Code, which runs in a terminal, never shows it inline. Every reply that touches a board includes its web link: https://gobanana.fun/c/<id>. Open it in a browser signed in with the same account.

If the link says the canvas was not found, you are signed in on the web with another account. Sign out at /en/account and sign in with the email ping shows.

If the inline board shows but looks out of date, it refreshes on its own every few seconds while it has focus. Click into it, or reopen it with “open the board”.

Message starts with What it means What to do
“You have used your 30 free searches this month.” Free search quota used Upgrade, or wait for the 1st of the month (UTC). Bending, rating and Frankenstein still work
“You have used your 3 free canvases.” Free canvas limit Add to an existing board, or delete one (“delete my oldest GoBanana board”; the agent asks you to confirm by name)
“This canvas has reached the 40 item limit” Board full on Free Remove tiles, start a new board, or upgrade
“These formats need Pro:” Pro export formats on Free The free files in the same call still export. Use BUILD-PROMPT.md and DIRECTION.md
“The parts library holds up to 80 parts.” Frankenstein library full Remove parts in the tray’s Parts tab, or reuse parts

The skills show the message once and stop. If an agent without skills keeps retrying, tell it to stop: the retries will get the same answer. During the beta, Pro limits apply to everyone.

GoBanana needs three things to reach the internet from your machine:

Host Why
gobanana.fun The MCP endpoint, the canvas and the docs
*.authkit.app and api.workos.com Sign in
The reference image hosts Images load from their source: i.pinimg.com, cdn.dribbble.com, mir-s3-cdn-cf.behance.net, assets.awwwards.com and the gallery hosts
  • TLS inspection: if your proxy re-signs HTTPS, Node based clients (Claude Code, Codex, mcp-remote) need your company’s root certificate. Set NODE_EXTRA_CA_CERTS=/path/to/company-ca.pem before starting the client.
  • HTTP proxy: set HTTPS_PROXY (and NO_PROXY for local hosts) in the client’s environment. Claude Code and most Node tools respect it.
  • Blocked image hosts: the board shows a link card (title, site, link) instead of the image. Everything else works.
  • workers.dev blocked: some networks block the whole workers.dev domain. Ask IT to allow gobanana.fun. There is no other address yet.
Message Fix
“That canvas was not found. Call open_canvas to create one, or check the canvasId.” Wrong id or another account’s board. “List my GoBanana canvases” shows yours
“The canvas changed while saving. Try again.” Two changes landed at once. Run the same request again
“Something went wrong on our side. Try again in a minute.” A short outage. Wait and retry once
“Search failed. Try again in a minute.” The search provider did not answer. Retry once; it does not count against the quota
“That direction was not found. Directions are saved only when bend_brief gets a canvasId.” The bend was not saved. Bend again with the canvasId, or search with the direction’s text as query
“That section was not found on this canvas. Call get_canvas to see section ids.” Stale sectionId. Read the board once and use a current id
“Nothing was deleted. Ask the user to confirm, then call again with confirm: true.” delete_canvas needs your explicit yes
  • A reference image does not load. It loads from its source. If the source removed it, blocks hotlinking, or your network blocks the host, the tile shows a link card. Open the source link.
  • A reference disappeared. It was probably taken down at the owner’s request. See Privacy, takedown and sources.
  • A palette skipped images. extract_palette lists each skipped item with a reason: host not on the allowlist, image too large, a format it cannot read yet (for example WebP), or a timeout. Pick other items and run it again.

See FAQ: Why did search find so few results?.

Run ping and note the exact message, your client and its version, and the time. Send them through the contact on the privacy page.
